FUJIFILM GFX100RF
THE CAMERA THAT CHANGED HOW I SHOOT
On march 20th, 2025 we first heard about a new camera, Not just any camera… A new breed!
The Fujifilm GFX100RF was first introduced to the world. A 735 gram, 102MP medium format camera that basically fits in your pocket! I did not get my hands on it when it came out but I started looking at videos and pictures from the camera as soon as they started flowing out on the internet. And I just knew that I had to get a chance to try it out.
Few months later I reached out to my amazing Fujifilm team and told them that I was heading to Iceland and Greenland and asked if they had an extra GFX100RF that I could try out in those conditions! And they said YES.
That just made my trip even more exciting. I knew that heading out, specifically to Greenland, with that camera would be amazing… I had no idea….
The more I started using it the more I started shooting differently. I started seeing the “frame” in other ways that just for social media, as many photographers out there I had become stuck in shooting for social media, never thinking “out of the frame”, And that was because of a small, but a very effective dial… the aspect ratio dial. It is amazing that a small change, in the right way, can affect your creativity so much! To be able to go through the aspect ratios that easily, without ever going into the settings menu of the camera is so effective. It makes you want to shoot in different aspects. Like the pictures of the car here below, all taken without ever turning the camera body, all shot horizontal. Just turned that dial for a very diverse gallery straight out of camera.
( Press the images to see the ratios! )
So, back to Greenland.
I have always preferred to shoot with camera bodies that I can swap lenses on depending on where and what I am shooting, But I found myself grabbing the GFX100RF much more that I thought I would while sailing around the epic coastlines of east Greenland. I used it to shoot life onboard, The epic landscapes and villages that we were visiting, and even on some occasions leaving my camera bag onboard and just heading out with the GFX100RF hanging on my shoulder when we went exploring! It is a highly enjoyable camera, and that means a lot. Your gear has to make you WANT to take photos, not HAVE to.
And I have always felt that other camera brands, like Canon and Sony for example are more for you know, doctors, laywers, clean cut people, where the Fujifilm cameras are for the artistic people. People that like creating with soul and artistic ways to look at things. But that´s just my opinion, you are welcome to dissagree.;-)
So over all a highly enjoyable camera that makes you want to shoot grand shots, but is also perfect for your kids birthday! And how much better can it get!
I know that I am looking forward to my next journey, not just because of the adventure… But because I can document it with the Fujifilm GFX100RF
I am not a technical guy, I always say I shoot with my heart not my head… so I saved the specs for last. :-D
